It could depend on the contract, yes get a contract signed supporting both you and your friend. Commission could be an essential thing here. Some logo designs are paid for and owned from the buyer. The cover could be one time thing to, when designed a one time payment could be agreed with. A good cheap commission would work good too. Royalties and other things depending on the contract. I hope this helps some what.
