Is my iomega Prestige External Hard Drive Broken?
I have a 1 TB iomega Prestige external hard drive and not a long time age it fell onto my wooden floor from my table. It didn't completely fall to the ground but the edge hit the floor but the rest was saved by the usb cable. Now when I turn it on there's a beep them it sounds like the hard drive is spinning inside. Finally after 2 seconds it stops. You can only hear it spinning every couple of times you turn it on, but the rest you can only hear clicks. It might be broken since on my laptop it doesn't appear on My Computer. Can someone tell me what might be wrong and a what i can do. Also a diagram of how the inside is supposed to look if I have to open it.
I opened it not a long time ago and and a small copper colored wire thing was bent.
You can open up the external case to see if their is any visible damage. It sounds as though there is. This is something that can be repaired. The simplest solution is to buy another drive adapter for about $15-20. Take the drive out of the damaged enclosure and install it in the new one. This should resolve it
