Downloading Open Office onto a Dell Mini... will it work to open Microsoft Office files?
I want to get a Dell mini but I don't want to pay 150 dollars to have Microsoft Office installed. People have told me just to download Open Office for free once I get the computer. Will this work just as well? I want to be able to open Power Point slides from my college classes.
It will yes - but you can't do it vice versa unless you save the file as .doc.
Open Office saves files as .ods - I'm assuming you'll know how to save a document as .doc.
The system was developed by the creators of Java, for the alternative of .doc. It's open source.
