Is a snake rack a suitable permanent enclosure for a Ball python?
Is UV lighting needed? Or is heat tape enough, as it is hard to put lighting fixtures in a snake rack.
Pythons do not need UV lighting as they are nocturnal. A rack is a fine enclosure for them since in the wild they generally spend the majority of their day curled up in a burro and only come out to hunt for food. As long as the tubs are large enough to accommodate the snake, a water dish, a hide and a temperature gradient, you are good to go. I use Reptile Basics racks with belly heat for most of my nocturnal herps.
