New PS3 HDD wont work...?
I bought a new 320gb HDD (Hitachi 0A57547 2.5-Inch 320 GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive) for my PS3, but when I install it, it says something of the sort "System can not restart...Disk must be reformatted...insert Media Disk and reformat..." I backed up the PS3 Data on an External Drive (FAT32) and when I try to reformat the HDD, it wont recognize whats on the external. The PS3 is up to date on firm ware, so I am not sure what the problem is. Does anyone know if the external HD needs to just have the PS3 back up info on it, nothing else?
First, you shouldn't be using a 7200 RPM drive because it is probably going to cause your PS3 to overheat and destroy it.
Now, use the support page and it walks you through step by step ( http://playstation.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/playstation.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=362&p_created=1193251723&p_sid=n3OFE8yj&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_lva=1260&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9NDQsNDQmcF9wcm9kcz0wJnBfY2F0cz0wJnBfcHY9JnBfY3Y9JnBfcGFnZT0xJnBfc2VhcmNoX3RleHQ9dXBncmFkaW5nIGhkZA**&p_li=&p_topview=1 ). Are you trying to restore from your external HDD? Which HDD are you trying to format, the new HDD, or the external HDD?
Put the new HDD into the PS3, start the PS3, format the HDD, restore from your media you backed up to.
