My Laptop Screen has gone ´Dark´... i can´t see anything! Any ideas?
I have an IBM Thinkpad about 4 years old, has been working fine, closed it this morning to hibernate and when i opened it again this afternoon, the screen was black.
I switched it off, then on again and could only just make out the ´Intel Inside´logo´ in the darkness... then that went and nothing else. the computer seems to start up ok... makes all the right noises, but with a black or superdark screen... i can´t make anything out 
i´ve tried adjusting the contrast but nothing. i´m not sure if it´s broken or if i´ve done something stupid like change a function or reset something... but i can´t see!
Any ideas would be appreciated!

Ponce! you're a life saver! i hooked up my computer to another monitor and problem solved for the time being... very cool as i'm using my comp as a 'juke-box' for a fiesta this weekend! phew 
You can see the screen on startup? First off, restart the computer and press F8 as it starts up and you will get come options on ho you want to star the laptop. Select the Start in VGA mode(or something close to that). This will only work if the monitor setting are to high. If that doesn't work it could mean your monitor has gone out. Try plugging an external monitor to see if that work. If nothing it will eliminate the video card as the culprit. Those are what I'd try first.
