Why does my laptops wireless signal start at 54mbps and then dwindle down to nothing?
I get a free signal from the park outside.My computer stays by the window and doesnt move. Is there a setting that I can change? Ive got WinXP I vaguely remember a setting that allows Windows to disconnect to save energy....Does that sound right? H E L P !
You might be too far from the wireless source. It's not that windows it trying to save energy, it happens when the wireless source is weak. The initial connection doesn't send much communication back and forth so that might be really fast, but when you are downloading web pages and other things there may be lots of TCP errors because of the poor signal therefore slowing down your transfer rate.
Take your laptop outside and walk around till the signal strengthens or how about this.... buy your own internet connection! Wow that's a great concept!
